Roses, Roses, Roses!

Join me on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 1 pm to 4 pm for a relaxing afternoon painting roses, just in time for Valentine’s Day. This 3-hour workshop will be held at The Gallery 8680, 8680 Main Street e1, Frisco, TX 75034.

Learn to paint roses in a new way and develop basic watercolor and design skills. We’ll practice painting roses in repetition, and then create a larger 15 x 10-inch floral design. Examples of how to use the smaller “practice pieces” to make cards or gifts (either matted or framed) will be on display for inspiration.

Cost: $75.00 (refreshments provided).
Age: Adults 18 and older.

About Me

I hold a B.A. in Fine Arts with an emphasis in painting and drawing from UTD. I taught Watercolors, Drawing, and Mixed Media for five years and recently took a break to focus on my own art. Now, I’m excited to share what I’ve learned with others who want to start painting or improve their watercolor skills.

My teaching style is hands-on and encouraging, focusing on building confidence as much as skills. Past students have enjoyed the classes as “me time,” so I design workshops that are both accessible and challenging for those ready to push their skills further.

The workshop includes demos and work time, where I’ll be available to help and will work alongside you.

If you love flowers as much as I do, this is the perfect workshop for you!

The Backstory

I taught watercolor classes for five years, but just before COVID, I paused to concentrate on my own art and the business side of it. Now retired, I’m putting together workshops to see what develops. Students are great at sharing what they’d like to learn, and I incorporate their suggestions. Many prefer in-person classes, but I plan to offer online versions for those who prefer that option.

Finding a classroom was the missing piece for this new project. The Gallery 8680, where I often exhibit, rents space for classes, and with arrangements made for January, I’m thrilled to begin offering workshops.

Workshop Main Theme

I chose roses to celebrate the season and plan to focus on florals in future workshops. Flower are my favorite subject to paint.

Teaching Style

In a classroom setting, repetition is central to my teaching approach. Repeating a subject allows students to develop muscle memory and build confidence in color and composition, much like working out.

For Beginners

I start beginners with exercises that explore various techniques. After warm-ups, they can complete a painting that incorporates what they’ve learned. I also observe students to identify challenges, and in the next class, we work through those struggles with specific exercises.

For Those Looking to Improve

I encourage intermediate students to choose their own subjects and styles, creating more individualized learning. Being around others working on diverse projects can be a great source of inspiration.
